The Killer was not too backwoods to market, he was a huge success until he married his fourteen year old cousin early in his career.
Night after night through all these years, old Jerry Lee was playing his brand of rock where it really counts, live performance. And not a string of down and out gigs either. He amassed a huge catalogue of recordings, on going sells, and sold out performances internationally for mucho years.
Elvis sold bigger than everyone but the Killer did old Elvis a big favour with his dumb marriage choice, and the timing of it. Elvis branched out and went far away from rock. He did it very well. But Jerry Lee Lewis was a rock and roll lifer, through and through.
No disrespect to Elvis, Berry, Carl Perkins or any others mentioned here but for me, Jerry Lee is the King.
