Okay... this probably sounds insane but I don't know enough about fiberglass as a medium to understand a lot of the stuff I'm reading online.

When I say fiberglass, I don't mean the insulation itself. What I'm referring to as when fiberglass is used to make costumes or molds. What really got me thinking about it was someone had made an entire suit of Iron Man armor out of fiberglass material.

I know I as a human couldn't bite through fiberglass and it is supposedly lighter than metal. How effective could it potentially be against the undead? Is it an effective combination of light weight, bite proof material or is it just a placebo?

I had no idea where to put this so I just stuck the idea here.

I've used fiberglass applications from patching boats to cars to helping a buddy (anime friend) build some elaborate costume pieces.

One assumes the undead would have the same if not lesser amount of bite force pressure as a normal person would.
IN that instance... i'd say yes, fiberglass would allow you some protection.
While affording you some weight benefits compared to metal armor.

The shits messy as hell to play with... however... you can mold and construct some serious looking stuff outta it.

Thermo-plastics is another one to consider... comes in sheets...cut to trim
the flat shape you want... submerge in a hot water solution to soften. Then when it cools... hard as rock and light.

You bring up a really good point.

For arguments sake let's just assume they are the rotted shamblers most of us are expecting. I think in that scenario fiberglass might be a really good substitute to metal for making protective gear.

On an unrelated topic, how messy is it to work with? I'd really like to make some costume pieces myself for Halloween and such. Any pointers you have would be awesome.

I personally wouldn't want to work with fiberglass, but I guess it's not a bad Idea.

Vampyre13- The concept of thermo-plastics intrigues me, though I'd need a little more info.

Are we talking about the same fiberglass that irritates your skin on contact? Shocked

Sort of... it's the same material in a sense, but we're actually talking about it's uses as a stiff material component rather than the fluffy pink stuff you put in walls.

They use fiberglass to make props, armor, and other things. In addition, fiberglass is often used to make casts for broken limbs.
